An increase in breastfeeding initiation worldwide indicates that most mothers know that breastfeeding is best for their baby. These mothers want to breastfeed but still the majority of them do not yet meet their breastfeeding goals. Research shows that important demographic, social, biological and psychological variables impact mothers’ decision to continue breastfeeding. An often overlooked variable impacting breastfeeding duration is a mother’s belief that her baby is unhappy or dissatisfied, whether or not there is evidence of insufficient milk. Ninety-five percent of mothers who are concerned about their milk supply, do have enough milk. Parents’ misunderstanding or misinterpreting their baby’s normal behaviour as hunger or dissatisfaction at the breast cause many to perceive that breastfeeding is not going well, choose to add formula or abandon breastfeeding. Sadly, It also undermines new parents’ confidence and interfere with parent-child bonding.HUG Your Baby is a program that help parents (& professionals who serve them) learn to see and understand baby’s behaviour, prevent and solve problems around a baby’s crying & sleeping, enhance breastfeeding duration and boost parents confidence. This presentation attempts to cover how a baby communicates through her behaviour, how to calm a fussy baby, how to help a baby sleep & eat well and how to play with a baby so that she can learn and grow. These simple, practical ideas will help parents to respond to, connect with, and enjoy early communication with their baby.
